Where will the $100 Goooh “membership” fee be used? Follow the math!

This if from the “Donation” page on Goooh.com: (underlining mine)

“Those making donations implicitly agree that all monies will be directed to the GOOOH National Committee (C00441568 - we are considered a non-connected PAC at this time). All contributions will be used wholly or in part in connection with the 2010 election for the U.S. House of Representatives or the first election after we reach our membership goals. Our intent is to use 50% of funds collected for the national campaign, 30% for the marketing of GOOOH, and 10% for administrative, salary, technology, and legal costs. The final 10% will be held in reserve for as-needed expenses but should be considered part of the Administrative funds as of now. If we exceed our goal of one million participants, we will revisit how any excess funds will be utilized. These allocations are not yet final, and more of the early dollars will be applied to the marketing of GOOOH, but do represent the intent of the organization at this time.”

I am an accountant by education; a former NYS tax auditor, 40 years ago, so I will claim 100% accuracy in the following “calculations” under the penalty of stupidity – if I’m wrong. Oh yeah, one other thing, I’m been accused of having a cop mentality, whatever that means.

Calculations:
One million members @ $100 = $100 million, (“funds”) (How am I doing so far)
50% of funds collected = $50 million for “national campaign”, or roughly $114,943.00 per Congressional campaign.

That leaves $50 million for what? I found it!!
30% for “marketing of GOOOH” = $30,000,000 – does that include travel?
10% for “administrative, salary, technology, and legal costs” = $10,000,000
The final 10% will be held in reserve for as-needed expenses but should be considered part of the Administrative funds as of now; that is another $10,000,000; for “administrative” etc costs.

WOW!!! $50,000,000 just for running the show.

TPaine, you make some valid point. For a movement such as Goooh I am hoping for the best. I think their goals are worthwhile and I believe that their motives are genuine. I agree with you though, that we need to keep asking the tough questions and keep a close eye on them to make sure they follow through. They need to be held just as accountable as any other interest group or members of Congress.

Their message is right on target as far as playing to most Americans. As my newest post shows, I believe this target is wrong.

Purple, I've been around long enough to identify proposals, sales pitches and movements that are just too perfect, with all the legal matters properly accounted for, with messages that promise something but not specifically anything - and that may be proper in this case, I don't know.

But, to obtain any financial info I had to drill deeply down into their website and even then the "legalese" was "impressive".

This is funny, or maybe not, if they reach their goal, $100 million according to their website, they are going to spend roughly $114,943.00 per Congressional campaign. At about 660,000 Americans per Congressional district, that amounts to a little more than 17 CENTS per head!

TPaine -

Do you think GOOOH will be able to get anyone elected?

Considering how angry Americans are with their government and the very real possibility that GOOOH could come up with a candidate, or even multiple candidates, I would say the chances are very good.

But GOOOH is a PAC, not a party, doesn't have an agenda or platform, so while I like their message, I don't see any partial success as being a game changer. That wouldn't be GOOOH's fault. You have to remember that any Member of Congress is going to be eventually co-opted by one or the other party by use of money, money, money.
