Last night our glorious leader stated that we had to drill in deep water because there are no places left in shallow water or on land.
He’s a liar.
Fact is, it is his administration which has prohibited drilling in many land areas of the United States, including Alaska, and has placed shallow water areas of the Eastern Gulf of Mexico, the West Coast, the entire Atlantic Coast and Alaskan waters off limits. All these areas I might add are considered hot spots for oil.
His ill-advised and pure political moratorium on deep water drilling will have the immediate effect of forcing rig owners and operators to move their rigs elsewhere; perhaps to West Africa. They won’t be back. With “official” unemployment around 10%, and actual probably close to 20% in some areas, this lose of jobs is unacceptable to a nation struggling out of a deep recession.
Notice that this current crisis is about one failure in an industry that has successfully drilled over 30,000 wells in the Gulf of Mexico, and yet this poor excuse for a president is going to use the opportunity to slam the door on the domestic coal industry; hence his use of the “fossil fuel” description as all encompassing for the energy crisis. His statement we are running out of fossil fuels is his justification for an immediate all out effort to go green.
He’s a liar.
We have at least a 500 year supply of coal in the continental United States and the technology for clean burning. His argument that we should abandon coal for carbon emission reduction is another line of b.s. China is bringing a new coal fired plant on line every week, and intends to do so for at least the next ten years. Who’s kidding who.
A clearly defined clean energy plan is called for because eventually we are going to run out of crude oil. My advice to Mr. In Charge is to look at new sources of clean energy as a phased plan. Consider what is technologically feasible for development in the near term; encourage energy savvy engineers and scientists to look at what is theoretically possible as mid-term sources which could be developed in 25 to 50 years; and finally establish a global think tank to explore what we might call “science fiction” categories of energy, such as dark matter and dark energy, for possible use a century or more in the future. This is not crazy; imagine what the concept, let alone the actual development, of a nuclear powered aircraft carrier would have looked like to Christopher Columbus: “Hey Chris I got this great idea for a ship 1,000” long and powered by…” You get the picture.
Can’t wait for 2012
