Republican J.D. Hayworth's recent attack ads against Sen. John McCain has caused quite a stir nationally. Just a little over one year after his unsuccessful run at the White House, McCain maybe in a battle to keep his own seat.

The timely web ad aims to capitalize on the popularity of the "Avatar" movie and the Academy Awards. Hayworth has until August to get his message out against MCain, but he has a long way to go. A Rasmussen Reports survey conducted in January shows McCain ahead of Hayworth 53 to 31 percent.

Will these attack ads work? Tell us what you think.

Bad taste in an ad. Everyone knows you only go negative when you are behind.

Other obvious problem is that many people like Avatar, so when you attack Avatar, you attack what they already like...an attack on their positive cognitive associations.

Somebody wrote a check to these guys and made a big mistake.

I can't stand McCain and I think he is one of the "old men" in our government who needs to be shown the door asap.

However... J.D. Hayworth is a complete joke. He was a congressman for TWELVE YEARS and he was voted out of office recently in 2006.

Hayworth isn't the new blood that we need in our government. He was one of the Republicans who was given his shot before and during the Bush years and blew it. It's obvious he is just trying to use the anti-incumbent atmosphere to land himself another gig as an elected official. And every time I see an interview with Hayworth, he strikes me as weak and dumb.

A real Republican needs to step up and rid us of McCain. Not Hayworth the goofball.

I think the ads are kind of childish, but Hayworth is trying to tap into a major cultural icon with Avatar and trying to capitalize on the anti-McCain sentiment. Personally, I don't think he has a shot, but this may help improve McCain's voting tendency for the better.
