Independent Storm Rising: Both GOP and Democrats Need to Watch Out

While Republicans try to take credit for the Scott Brown victory in Massachusetts, the surprising development this past Tuesday sends one clear message to both political parties -- "Shape up or get out of the way!"

Although Democrats outnumber Republicans 3-to-1, more than half of Massachusetts voters aren't registered with either party. The Senator-elect's statement that "the independent majority has delivered a great victory" was very true. Brown didn't just win over the independents, he dominated by garnering 75 percent of their vote.

Democrat Martha Coakley had a substantial lead over Brown for most of the race, but the political climate started changing in December with the buyout of Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE). Nicknames such as "Cornhusker Kickback" and "Louisiana Purchased" were used to describe Senators who traded their health care vote in exchange for financial benefits for their respective states.

President Obama admitted during an interview with George Stephanopoulos (ABC News) that what propelled Brown's victory is the same thing that propelled his own victory a year ago --  people are angry and they want change. This voter angst that led to big victories for Democrats in 2006 and 2008, but the pendulum has now swung back the other direction.

“I hope they’re paying close attention, because tonight the independent voice of Massachusetts has spoken," said Brown. “The independent majority has delivered a great victory."

Both Republicans and Democrats need to learn from the Brown victory that any power gained will be short-lived if they insist on running the country "politics as usual." Members of the silent majority don't have an "R" or a "D" next to their names - they are mad as hell and they will not take it anymore!

Another race to take note of is the NY 23rd Congressional race this past fall. Remember, the third party candidate almost pulled that race out. The Republican ultimately got hurt the most there because their candidate would have probably won, but this sends a clear signal to the party to pay attention to their base.

Less gov't is the key regardless of who is elected. I believe we will see both Dems and Reps run on a more libertarian platform in both 2010 and 2012 because it' simply what makes the most sense to the most people.

I've always liked the general concepts of the Libertarian Party, but it always seemed to me that either the message, the candidates, especially Ron Paul, or the strategy were misrepresented by the media.

The Dems and Reps see the Libertarians coming, and just like in a military campaign, the larger army controlling the "ground" will generally defeat and marginalize an enemy, in this case ANY third-party regardless of the platform or message. The ground here is the media which now thanks to the supreme court is totally under the control of Wall Street financial interests, and that means the only way to restore common sense to our political process is to establish the modern day version of the "Sons of Liberty"!

I am not preaching revolution of any kind, but using the Internet to organize, promote and support the new American Federalist Party is almost operating in the same way as the Colonial "Sons of Liberty".

Let me explain. Details of membership are kept confidential; no information about states, districts and/or local precints will be released and no polls of any kind will be engaged in. Platforms and issues will be made public. In other words no "tactical" information will be given to the "enemy". Let the bastards keep guessing until the party has enough members to critically impact any election.

A more detailed and focused explanation will be set forth in my Introduction to the American Federalist Party.

For now,

3 party system has never worked in a democratic environment correct? perhaps that's why we need to move more toward a parliament style government?

Your thoughts TPaine?

Freedom,
You are right about the 3 party system never working a environment like ours

Here's why I've been yapping about why the American Federalist Party can be different. The STRATEGY is not to become another 3rd party; the strategy is for AmFed to REPLACE one of the current 2 parties.

This is not so far fetched as it first may sound and the reson is the HUGE number of "non-aligned" voters currently tagged, by the press, as "independent". Give them a party with real solid values and real centrist pro-AMerican issues, not just left or right wing ideological issues and you have a real strong chance of uniting them ALONG WITH the moderates in both parties.

I also have a feeling that if a new party came along and was growing in number of members by use of the Internet; by avaoiding the media, for now; and shunned the usual "fund raising" for a while it could just attract and actually fold in some other 3rd parties.

For example, the Libertarians. They have fought for years for common sense values and reasonable government and they've gotten in exchange is ridicule by the media and this same media has effectively marginalized the party. Last election, Ron Paul, was the only one that showed he had a brain in his head! We know what the media did to him.

Think of it this way; centrist 3rd parties have fought themselves out, even the new ones because they always think of themselves as 3rd party CHOICES instead of a replacement for one of the 2 now in. But AmFed will position itself as a new political force determined to break up and remove one of the 2 parties. Different strategy, and different tactics - Internet playing field.

The only thing that worries me about launching this party is how to get average Americans upset enough to start looking at alternatives and the only tactic appears to be shock. By that I mean drawing attention to the problems of corruption etc by using "non p.c.", in your face language, and examples of corruption and Wall Street control. I mean really strong allegations like "bought and paid for" politicians and even comparisons to Nazi tyranny if warranted.

Energize without turning people off is a major concern.

But I have no doubt considering the latest supreme court b.s., now is the time for AmFed to go public.

What do you think?
