 | | | Roy Ashburn Gets DUI Reportedly After Leaving Gay Nightclub | | | | | The Republican State Senator, father of 4 and with a history of opposing gay rights, was pulled over around 2:00 am and given a DUI reportedly after leaving Faces, a gay Sacramento nightclub. The Chevy Tahoe he was driving is a state owned vehicle. In the vehicle with him was an unidentified male.
The State Senator has already issued an apology;
"I am deeply sorry for my actions and offer no excuse for my poor judgment," Ashburn said in a statement issued late Wednesday afternoon. "I accept complete responsibility for my conduct and am prepared to accept the consequences for what I did."
Perhaps apologizing to the gay community is what is really needed. To consistently vote against gay rights and then actively hang out within the gay community is kind of a slap in the face, I mean it's 2010. Those with authority having issues coming out of the closet is nothing new to the gay community. Ironically, the group of people Ashburn has suppressed most legislatively will also likely be the most understanding in his darkest hour. That is real love and humanity. Pay attention Senator and keep it real.
As your fellow Republican Ronald Reagan reiterated, 'dance with the one who brung ya'.
